Women’s Sportbike Rally, All About the Curves

April 8th, 2007

I stumbled across a news release announcing the 2nd annual Women’s Sportbike Rally. This sounds like an event that will soon be big enough to feature on my motorcycle rallies and events web site, but it definitely deserves a mention now, right here. The location selected is one of the best areas in the Smoky Mountains for any biker to appreciate, and all bikers are welcome (any male bikers must be invited by their girlfriend/spouse).

Headquartered in Fontana, North Carolina, this rally is just ten miles south of Deals Gap, sometimes referred to as the Dragon, with over 300 turns in its ten mile length.

All proceeds from the Womens Sportbike Rally go to Tiffany’s Melanoma Foundation. Tiffany Weirbach, known as “sportbikegirl” in many motorcycle forums in the late nineties and 2000, succumbed to Melanoma in 2001 at the age of 24, after a two and a half year fight. Tiffany was one of the first to promote women on sport bikes over the internet. She used her already popular website to share with the world her fight for survival and bring awareness to the terrible disease.

I wish the organizers much success in this event, and watch for it to grow quickly. For the ladies out there, give this one a try! I know you will enjoy the ride!
